- Nikolai only uses his first name (though with retrospec this is going to get blown up in a hot minute) because his last name is connected to an international incident that made headlines. Namely a politically motivated grudgematch/bloodbath that ended up with literally his entire family murdered, plus a lot of other people murdered.
If asked directly about it he will straight up lie, though his name shows up in some articles as a 'missing person'. If your character follows the news generally, your character might have heard about it!

If you work there, you might have seen him around as a coworker or in passing. If you're a student there, he might even be your lecturer, at least some of the time? He tends to fill in a lot, too.
